Bold Content Start Up Makes First Move Towards Completely AR Office

Meta, an Augmented Reality development company is shunning traditional working methods in favor of A.R. glasses. CEO of the $73 Million start up, Meron Gribetz has vowed to make the switch over by March of next year.

The move will see Meta remove all monitors from employees desks, instead they will undertake all daily tasks form email to report writing in their augmented world. Gribetz is convinced that by moving from a 2D monitor to an interactive 3D world, a user will get more done, once an initial adaption period has been experienced.

In fact Gribetz expects to see a decrease in productivity for the first few months, but at this years EmTech MIT conference, he laid out his hopes for the project “A few months later when people are spatializing their thoughts, people are going to become a lot more effective.”

The glasses themselves were developed by Meta, and retail at a hefty $949 per unit. The glasses allow the user to see 3D objects overlaid onto the real world, that can be manipulated by users through physical movement. The idea is that by distributing information around the user, it will see them use areas of the brain that are not normally engaged in day to day office life.

With Apple focusing in on AR for the I Phone 8 and Metas own model paving the way for an AR heavy workplace. Could this development show an industry wide lean toward AR over VR? Or is this simply companies hedging their bets and exploring all areas of innovation?
