Your website is 50x more likely to appear on the first page of Google if it includes at least one video.
That’s according to research from DigitalSherpa.
The fact is that video should be considered an essential part of any businesses marketing strategy. Here you will find seven tips for optimizing your corporate video so that it appears more prominently in the search engines.
#1 Select The Right Keywords
Before you add a video to your website or video sharing platform establish what keywords that you would like to rank for. Keywords are the search phrases that you want to have your video appear in search engines like Google and Yahoo. For example, if you have a created a project management app, then a keyword you might want to rank for is “Best Project Management App”. You can use the free Google Keyword Planner tool in order to help you find these keywords. Identifying these keywords is critical for some of the steps later on.
#2 Include Transcripts
The search engines are unable to index the content in your video. This can hurt your ability to rank for specific keyword phrases. To overcome this problem it is good idea to include a transcript for your video. This text based content can then be properly indexed by the search engines.
#3 Select The Right Thumbnail
The right thumbnail can make a significant difference as to whether someone clicks on your link. Spend time choosing a thumbnail which is going to immediately grab peoples attention and encourage them to click on your link. According to figures published on GetResponse, search results with rich snippets – including thumbnail images – get a 30% higher click through rate than those without.
#4 Use The Keyword In The Title, Tags And Description
Once you have established the keywords you want to target you can use these in the title, tags and description of your video. Generally it is best to aim for a spread of 2 – 3 keywords throughout the description of the video. You should also aim to include some variation of your keywords in the title. The title and description for your video will appear as you write it in the search results. It is important that you consider not only how to include the tags but also make it compelling for the reader.
#5 Make It Easy To Embed
Ensuring that your video is easy to embed on other peoples websites is one of the most effective ways of having it shared. Video sharing platforms like YouTube and Vimeo simplify this process, as there is a small snippet of code that people can take and add to their own websites.
#6 Use Keywords In The File Name
One thing that many people overlook when making a corporate video is to use the keywords that they want to rank for in the file name. This is just one more way of showing the search engines what the content of your video is about.
#7 Make The Video Interesting
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, make sure that the video is interesting. If your content fails to engage your audience it will hurt your view time metrics. It also makes it much less likely the video will be shared.
