2017 will be viewed as the year when video went from “good to have” to an essential part of every business’s online marketing strategy. Already there have been some stunning statistics released which show how integral video has become to consumers every day use of the internet. For example, YouTube recently announced that its users watching a staggering one billion hours of video content each day! Or how about the fact that Amazon is now investing $3 billion a year in developing original video content.

Social media sites are moving towards video across the board. Facebook has already publicly announced that they favour live video and give these videos greater reach. Perhaps one of the reasons why two thirds of all internet users between the ages of 18 and 34 have watched live video.

Video is a regular part of the majority of people’s internet usage. In the United Kingdom 65.1% of the population watch digital video. The idea of the distinction between traditional linear video and online video is also breaking down. By 2020 it is predicted that 202.1 million people be watching digital video through connected TVs.

Video is not only important today, it’s actually going to be even more important in the future. YouTube is not the only site that is growing fast. Video platform Vimeo is also growing by 80% year over year. Not to mention that according to a Cisco white paper by 2020 82% of all internet traffic will be video.
