Bold Content CASE STUDY – EIE Start-up Investment London Event Video

The Brief for the EIE Event Video

We were approached by Informatrics Ventures, whose mission is to support globally ambitious companies based in Scotland, to film their EIE (Engage Invest Exploit) showcase events. The purpose of the EIE events is to introduce technology investors with some of the hottest startup companies in the life sciences, IT and energy sectors. These events provide not only valuable networking opportunities but also present engaging and highly informative speakers. We are were asked by EIE to capture their latest event at glamorous Canada House in the heart of London.

The Purpose of the EIE Event Video

The purpose of the event videos was to promote future EIE conferences to potential attendees. It was important to show prospective attendees, both investors and entrepreneurs, the benefits of attending the London based event. Compared to other mediums video is often more compelling because you can see and hear the genuine testimonials from those who have attended.Canada House Conference

The Process of making the EIE Event Video

The video was filmed using a 4K camera, supported by two smaller cameras. In addition we used a camera stabilization system which enabled us to get a lot of movement into the shots. This is important for event videos because typically using a static camera you can get a lot of repetitive shots. In contrast using a moving camera really enables you to get among the crowd and capture the looks on people’s face. Shots of people smiling, laughing and exchanging business cards, add real interest to the video and allow the prospective attendee a feel for what it is actually like to come to the event.

Trafalgar Square WC2To film the event in London we used a relatively small crew including a director who interviewed participants and a lead cameraperson. We had a third person on second camera who was also tasked with collecting sound. The smaller sized crew allowed us to be agile and unobtrusive while still having enough people on hand to collect the material we were looking for. During the event we had two camera units running at the same time, with the A unit doing interviews and our B unit capturing the general networking that was going on in other rooms.

Another interesting element to this video was our use of time-lapse shots. Using time-lapse we were able to show the event as it progressed over the course of the day. This included showing the flow of people in and out of the location and the scale of the networking that took place. This allowed us to quickly give a sense of what it was like to attend.Canada House Trafalgar Square London

We used a newer technique called hyperlapse to start the event video. This enabled us to show the audience that the event took place in Trafalgar Square, the very heart of London. These hyper-lapse shots were also enabled us to highlight the prestigious location of Canada House.

We  added in speed ramp technique, which is where you mix slow and sped up motion footage together. Again this is quite a modern editing technique. One of our guiding principles when creating event videos is to ensure that there is constant change to maintain interest and ensure that the viewer isn’t seeing the same thing twice.

The Finished EIE Event Video

The video will be featured on EIE on their website and social media channels. In addition, to the main event video we have also created shorter, cut down versions which are suited to social media. Finally, one of the things that really sets the EIE event apart from its competition is the quality of those who attend. We wanted to make sure that we maximized this opportunity by capturing advisory content from these attendees. This advisory content will hopefully be a useful result for startup entrepreneurs looking to get funding as well as a useful content marketing tool for EIE.
