However, Kath’s grandmother was very strict and had many rules, including one that forbade Kath from going out at night. Luckily there was a picture on during the afternoon, and the pair was able to have their first date. Eager to see her again, Henry asked if he might be able to take her out again the following day, but Kath said she had to go to church. Pretending to be a devout Catholic, Harry accompanied her to church, but it soon became clear to her that Harry had been exaggerating when he shook off the water from the font. The incident did not end their relationship though because Harry came clean and confessed that he simply desired to be with her as much as possible.

After a while of courting, Kath finally got around to telling her grandmother about Harry, and, despite being a bit cross, she allowed their relationship to continue. When Harry went away to the Army, the two would always see each other whenever her was on leave. Eventually, the couple was married in 1944 during one of his leaves from the Army at the same church they attended the Sunday after their first date.

When Kath passed away four years ago, Harry was left heartbroken. He compared the pain of losing the love of his life to that of having a dagger pierce his heart. Harry surrounds himself with pictures of his wife to remind him of all the good times they shared throughout their marriage, and he says that he no longer fears death as he hopes that it will be a chance to see Kath and her beautiful green eyes once again.
