A TV Commercial to advertise the launch of Ain’t Misbehavin’ at the Southwark Playhouse.
Southwark Playhouse is launching the first musical revival in almost 25 years. In light of this fact, our client came to us with a frankly short brief – create a commercial for this masterpiece.
One of the elements that make our videos unique, is the effort we put in to ensure they seamlessly integrate into the wider marketing campaign.
Whether it’s an event video or a TV commercial we spend the time to reflect on what other marketing collateral the viewers may have seen and how our video will sit on the company’s website and social channels, alongside complementary marketing materials. We then bring elements of those materials into the production. Not just the usual logo at the end but our Directors are briefed to reflect the essence of the project in the camerawork, the lighting and the framing. Our Editors are briefed to bring in elements of the production to the pacing, the effects and the colour grade (it’s a given that all titles and CTA will be on brand).
The above video is a great example of how we work hard to reflect the style of the project in our filmmaking, rather than using a one-size-fits-all ‘house style’ across multiple projects.
To make sure our video matched the catchy and upbeat swing choreography, we used dynamic shots from a roaming camera to create the trailer. The vibrant and engaging edit was achieved by adding bright visual effects which took inspiration from the stage design. The final touch and the key element added in post-production was the colour grade. To give the audience a feeling of the Golden Twenties the footage received a colour adjustment that brought up the dominating golden-brown tones of the stage.
The trailer was created in close collaboration between the shooting director and director of the musical Tyrone Huntley.
