The Commonwealth Secretariat

Earth Observation and Climate Finance Animated Video

The Commonwealth Secretariat is an international organisation working with 54 member countries assisting them to work together to promote prosperity, democracy and peace, amplify the voice of small states, and protect the environment.

Small island nations are on the frontline of the devastating impacts of climate change.

CommonSensing is an innovative project based on a partnership between Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, and a consortium of international partners, including the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Together they support and build climate resilience and enhance decision-making through the use of satellite remote sensing technology. This initiative provides technical assistance to countries in accessing climate finance.

The Commonwealth Secretariat needed an animation to promote the tool and additional resources that include useful and valuable information about the satellite remote sensing technology and how it can help vulnerable countries access climate finance.

For this project, we knew that we had to include dense research into a short, clear script that communicated the important points. We wrote the script, designed the visuals, created the animated motion graphics, incorporated stock footage, and added the music and sound effects to the video.

In this cut down version for social media, you’ll see how motion graphics can be used to elevate stock footage in an explainer video in surprising and creative ways:
